In Inuit - The Residents at the foxholes
After an overnight sail further up the west coast, we stopped at Greenlands second largest city. Sustained mainly by the fishing industry, it is home to the largest fish processing plant in the country.
The city is the most Northern year round ice-free port in the country
A tribute to the halibut fishermen
The town is both colourful and desolate. The main buildings are coloured according to their use, so red denotes churches and schools, yellow is for hospitals and blue for fish factories.
It is apparent that harsher seasons lie ahead with the amount of ski doos and sleds stored in anticipation of the winter.
We took a bus tour around the town, the highlight being the open spaces where the husky sled dogs are kept.
Our tour guide owned some dogs, so Mrs M was allowed to get up close and personal with them.
Peps Log : Met the Greenlandic sled dogs Our guide had 10.
No other dogs allowed on the island to keep them pure bred
Look at those puppies!
