Day 3 – Sunday with Mr & Mrs R and a job well done

First up, visit to a typical Malay village….which was closed… Plan B, the Independance Park, which was open.

A way of celebrating the various stages in attaining Malaysian Independance using textures, designs, murals and physical depictions of specific events. The Brits and the Japanese not coming out well. It was as if they had to unblock a u-bend of colonial waste to reassert themselves as a nation on the go.

Rather quaintly however was an “English” tea shop serving different teas, homemade scones, brownies, cookies etc, and bizarrely displaying a montage painting of York.

Today was particularly hot, and a trip to the air conditioned mall was suggested by Mrs R, although the a/c in the apartment was perfectly adequate? Needless to say, whilst Mark and I sipped a lager, retail therapy occurred on the distaff side.

At the apartment, a bit of a snooze and then repacking cases for tomorrow’s (4 am!!!) departure, as advised by Mr Taxi to avoid the Singapore Monday rush hours. I managed to unload a substantial amount of extraneous material that Mrs R said she would kindly sort out.

One last chance to sample the local eateries found ourselves in a Malay restraunt for a very tasty Nasi Lemak with chicken rendang. (Cantonese noodles with cucumber & garlic for Mrs M)

A wonderful start to our holidays, catching up with two lovely friends who have taken an exciting plunge into a different culture and lifestyle and have been the most kind, generous hosts we could have wished for. I think we almost feel we’ve left the deposit for a return trip.
